    Max Size:15.00 cm

Varieties:No cultivated strains — this is a wild-type fish and the black-and-white tail barring is the whole of its appeal. Individual variation is modest, though fish from different origins vary in the depth of the body and in preferred water chemistry, which is why the pH tolerance is quoted as depending on origin. Most trade fish are commercially bred. The genus Rasbora is large and has been split repeatedly, so several fish sold as rasboras now sit in other genera — the harlequin, lambchop and glowlight rasboras are Trigonostigma, and the chili and dwarf rasboras are Boraras. All of those are small; this one is not. Within Rasbora proper, the clown rasbora, brilliant rasbora and various others reach the trade and several are similarly large. If you want a shoaling rasbora for a normal community tank, the harlequin and lambchop are the ones to look at. This species needs a considerably bigger aquarium.

Scissortail Rasbora (Rasbora trilineata) is a species of fish in the family Cyprinidae. It is native to Southeast Asia (Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo). The scissortail rasbora is named for a movement rather than a marking. When the fish is at rest it twitches the caudal fin, opening and closing the two lobes with their black-and-white bars in a scissoring motion. It does it constantly, and in a group it is unmistakable. The size is the surprise. This is not a small rasbora: maximum standard length is 150 mm, and the specialist minimum tank is a 120 × 45 × 45 cm base at around 243 litres. Specialists describe it as very peaceful indeed and an ideal resident of the larger, well-furnished community tank — which is exactly the right framing, since the fish is peaceful and the tank is not small. It is also a determined jumper and needs a tight-fitting lid.
