Staurogyne Repens (Staurogyne repens) is an aquatic plant in the family Acanthaceae. It is native to South America. Staurogyne repens is a low, bushy stem that behaves like a shrub, and the technique with it is to cut it low and often. Trimmed hard it branches from the base into a tidy compact bush a few centimetres tall; left alone it grows leggy and leans over. That single habit is what makes it useful as a transition between a carpet and taller midground planting. It comes from South America, reaching around 10 cm under trimming, and grows in medium light without CO2 at 22 to 28 °C (72–82 °F) in soft to moderately hard water. Plant individual stems a few centimetres apart rather than as a clump. CO2 makes it noticeably denser but is not required.
