Hygrophila Pinnatifida (Hygrophila pinnatifida) is an aquatic plant in the family Acanthaceae. It is native to India. Hygrophila pinnatifida is the only Hygrophila that behaves like an epiphyte — it can be glued to wood or rock and will creep across it, sending down roots as it goes. The leaves are deeply lobed and fern-like, bronze-brown above and burgundy beneath, and the colour deepens markedly with strong light and CO2. It comes from India, reaches around 20 cm, and grows in medium light at 22 to 28 °C (72–82 °F) in soft to moderately hard water. It sends out horizontal side shoots that root wherever they touch, which is how a single plant becomes a patch. Trim those runners to control it, or let them spread across hardscape, which is the more interesting option.
