Dwarf Cryptocoryne (Cryptocoryne parva) is an aquatic plant in the family Araceae. It is native to Sri Lanka. Cryptocoryne parva is the smallest true Cryptocoryne, topping out at about 8 cm, and it is the only one that works as a genuine foreground. It is also the slowest. A pot of parva planted as individual crowns takes many months to knit into a mat, and there is no way to hurry it — it is a plant for people who plan in seasons rather than weeks. It comes from Sri Lanka, grows in medium light at 22 to 28 °C (72–82 °F) in soft to moderately hard water, and does not require CO2, though it responds to it. Unlike most crypts it rarely melts badly. Plant the crowns individually and a few centimetres apart, and leave them undisturbed.
