Varieties:No cultivated strains, and an identification problem typical of the genus. Corydoras schwartzi belongs to a group of similarly reticulated species that are routinely mixed in shipments and sold interchangeably: C. trilineatus, the three-stripe or false julii cory; C. julii, the true julii, which is rarely imported; and C. leopardus among others. The distinctions are in the fineness of the head pattern and in whether the body markings form lines or a network, and even experienced keepers disagree over shop fish. All have similar requirements, so a mixed group is not a husbandry problem, but they should not be deliberately mixed if breeding is intended. Elsewhere in the genus, the bronze, peppered and albino cories are the adaptable species for a general community. The 2024 revision of the group split Corydoras into seven genera and placed this species in Hoplisoma, so a shop label still reading Corydoras schwartzi means the same fish.

Schwartz's Corydoras (Hoplisoma schwartzi) is a species of fish in the family Callichthyidae. It is native to South America (Rio Purus basin, Brazil). Schwartz's cory is one of the more finely marked members of the genus — a reticulated network of dark spots and lines over a pale body, with a boldly dark-banded dorsal fin that stands up like a flag. It reaches 70 mm standard length, making it one of the larger small cories, and it is endemic to the Rio Purus drainage in Brazil. It is extremely peaceful and should be kept in groups of at least six for confidence. The one figure worth noting is temperature: 22 to 24 °C (72–75 °F) is the recommended range, which is cooler than most community tanks are run and cooler than many other Corydoras. Spawning is reportedly difficult to induce in this species, which sets it apart from the easily bred bronze and peppered cories.
